Heart disease continues to touch so many lives. It’s
Heart disease continues to touch so many lives. It’s one of the leading causes of death here in Massachusetts, with thousands affected each year through heart attacks, strokes, and related conditions.
Recent community health data shows self-reported heart disease nearly doubled among survey participants from 2019 to 2022 (from about 5.7% to 9.3%), and while statewide death rates have trended slightly downward in recent years, it still claims far too many neighbors, family members, and friends often too soon.
February is American Heart Month, and this year’s focus from the American Heart Association is building a Nation of Lifesavers. The message is simple and powerful: In a cardiac emergency, the first responder is often someone nearby you, me, a coworker, or a passerby. Learning Hands Only CPR just call 911 and push hard and fast in the center of the chest) can double or triple survival chances, and it doesn’t require special training or equipment.
No one in our community should feel alone facing this. Small steps like knowing the signs (chest pain, shortness of breath, fatigue), supporting healthy habits together, or being ready to act can make a real difference for someone we care about.
This month, wear red on February 6th (National Wear Red Day) to show support, share stories if you’re comfortable, or take a few minutes to learn CPR basics at heart.org/nation.
Our hearts beat in this community let’s look out for each other. 💙❤️
