Dementia is a group of conditions symbolized by the impairment of at least two brain functions such as judgment and memory loss. It mostly affects persons aged 65 years and above, however, it is not considered a normal part of aging.
While Alzheimer’s disease is the most common type of dementia, it’s not the only one. Some of the other types of dementia conditions include but are not limited to Vascular Dementia, Frontotemporal dementia, Lewy bodies dementia, Creutzfeldt- Jacob disease, Huntington’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, Young-onset dementia, Mixed dementia, Down-syndrome among others. These conditions share symptoms like forgetfulness, lack of thinking ability, loss of communication, inappropriate behaviors, confusion, anxiety, and visual hallucinations among others, but are also very different.
