Vaccines are injections, liquids, pills, or nasal sprays that you take to teach your body’s immune system to recognize and defend against harmful germs. Vaccines are a global health and development success story, saving millions of lives every year.
Vaccination is one of the most effective ways to prevent your body from catching a variety of diseases that could lead to poor health and high medical bills. As one ages, their body’s immune system weakens making them vulnerable to diseases making it even more important to keep up to date with all your vaccines.
Types of Vaccines
Live-attenuated vaccines
Live vaccines use a weakened (or attenuated) form of the germ that causes a disease for instance Smallpox and yellow fever.
Inactivated vaccines
Inactivated vaccines use the killed version of the germ that causes a disease. for example Flu, Polio & Hepatitis A.
Subunit, recombinant, polysaccharide, and conjugate vaccines
Subunit, recombinant, polysaccharide, and conjugate vaccines use specific pieces of the germ like its protein, sugar, or capsid examples include Hepatitis B and shingles.
Toxoid vaccines
Toxoid vaccines use a toxin (harmful product) made by the germ that causes a disease. examples include Tetanus and Diptheria
mRNA vaccines
mRNA vaccines make proteins that trigger an immune response. an example of an mRNA vaccine is Covid 19

Use genetic material, which gives your cells instructions for making a protein of the germ. examples include Ebola, Zika, & HIV.
